“This is a photo from the home where I grew up. A screendoor, a shot from interior to exterior indicating a perspective of at-home-ness mixed with longing for movement & broadening, which feels like a West Virginian perspective somehow. A screendoor is like a portal to me and the very sound of the door shutting upon its spring evokes this state — on a summer night when there are more flowers to cut for a vase than you can manage to ever cut. I also love the swings waiting for little free bodies. And the porch as gathering place, an extra room in a too-small house.” – j.v.e.
